nappy brand index
As an appendix to my nappy article I started to compile a list of nappy brands, websites and prices adding my own comments and now I feel a bit sick in the stomach... It is the biggest list I have seen online... you can probably tell which ones I wrote when I was 'fresh' and which ones I wrote when I had become very woozy... There are still some brands I have not included because they weren't big enough and some that I may not have discovered yet... so I am stopping here and now.
Sorry they are not hyperlinks - they were automatically weblinked when I had it as a 'Word' document - if you want me to send you a clickable pdf I can email you one... :) they are in alphabetical order...
Baby beehinds AUST www.busybehinds.co.nz
(A few different types of naps)
One-size-fits-all hemp or bamboo fitted nappies. From $34. Unknown how bulky this one-size is. Ecofriendly fabric. Cover from $20.
Bumgenius www.mumandbubs.co.nz www.mumandbubs.co.nz North American? www.mothersinstinct.co.nz
(OSFA pocket nappy with Velcro closures and snaps to adjust rise)
By Cotton Babies. A new nappy on the market from $34. They sound pretty fab – but still they are a pocket nappy – like them or loathe them, pocket nappies have revolutionised American parenting.
Cottontails www.cottontails.co.nz
(Prefold + cover system)
$16 for pack of 6 prefolds. – Economic, but a little labour intensive compared to others.
Cutiebums www.cutiebums.co.nz
(fitted nappy + cover system)
From $18, four sizes available therefore not the cheapest, but they look nice…?
Disana GERMANY www.trademe.co.nz
(Totally organic prefold system)
Labour intensive but planet friendly – no polyester in sight, no Velcro or plastic domes etc. Nappies tie on. Wool covers. Premium prices. A few people seem to supply these but easiest to get from TradeMe probably.
Ecobots NZ www.econappies.co.nz
(Prefold + cover system) – Economic, but a little labour intensive compared to others. $3 each prefold + covers = $16.50 each.
Eenee / Eenee weenee
(most modern types)
These are often sold second-hand on TradeMe but the website is very hard to find just by googling – I can’t find it at the moment. Australian brand I think. They have a bunch of covers similar to the Bumis whisper pant for the same price but umpteen separate sizes (sold at Babycity shops). I have considered buying a size 0 one because in the 9 – 12 month age the small Bumis cover starts to get small but the medium is still too loose. It is not clear what Eenee’s reputation is but they have been around for a while.
Ecobubs NZ www.ecobubs.co.nz
(Fitteds, Pockets and Pocket fitteds!)
These guys have the right idea. The only draw back is 3 separate sizes for buyers to contend with – but this is what most brands have. Their naps look a little ‘home made’ and so does their website – this could be a good or bad thing! Prices start at $18 for a small fitted and $19.50 for a small pocket fitted.
Fuzzibunz US www.fuzzibunz.co.nz
(PUL pocket nappy with microfleece liner and snap closures with microfibre inserts) Fuzzibunz are very easy to clean and quick to dry and are in high demand secondh-hand. They use exclusively manmade materials. They have multiple sizes. $27.95 each + inserts = $34.95.
Happy Heiny US? www.happyheiny.com www.mumandbubs.co.nz
(PUL Pocket nappy with microfleece liner and velcro closures + fitted nappies and accessories)
A nice snug nappy and comes in 3 sizes @ around $25 each + inserts. Microfleece liner doesn’t wash as well as suedecloth in my opinion and pills. They also make “Happy Hempys” which are a much more eco-friendly and effective fitted nappy system – but above average cost.
Joel-eze Naps NZ www.joel-ezenaps.co.nz
(A range of modern systems)
PUL pocket naps similar to fuzzibunz = 4 different sizes but only $22 each. Also sell a cotton OSFA fitted nappy with a pull out soaker for $23 which is excellently economic but a a little bulky. Apparently the soaker is put into a pocket so the cleaning up will be very easy.
Kissaluvs www.nappydays.co.nz www.mumandbubs.co.nz
(a range of fitted naps + contour naps)
Contour naps are kind of in between a prefold and a fitted nappy. These are sold for $14.50 each and you fasten them with a nappi nippa or snappy etc and put a cover over the top. Also standard type fitted nappies in 3 sizes from $20.
Kushies www.naturebaby.co.nz
(Fitted naps, covers and all-in-ones)
A popular and well known Canadian brand. I have one friend whose Kushie ultras (AIO) disintegrated after only a few months use but she loved the Kooshies classic fitted nappy + cover. Only 2 sizes so quite economic from $21 each for the nappy. They don’t have microfleece liners to help keep baby drier – this may be seen as a good or bad thing. They have a fold out soaker so are quicker drying than Snazzipants but messier to clean.
Mommy’s Touch UK? www.mumandbubs.co.nz www.bumbles.co.nz
(Famous for their OSFA pocket nappy)
These puppies are expensive - $39 including insert per nap- but because it is OSFA I guess they are cheaper than fuzzibunz. They do have a dizzying array of snaps so they are not for the faint hearted. They also sell a all-in-one for a similar price.
Mother-Ease UK www.nappydays.co.nz
(A range of modern systems)
Another well-known UK brand. Covers from $16 and AIO naps from $36. They have a one-size organic fitted nap ($28) with snaps and separate soakers that I almost bought, but then I found the Fluffles…
Naturebaby www.naturebaby.co.nz
(organic cotton fitted nappy but suppliers of other brands too)
NZ distributer of beautiful Imse Vimse European nappies and $60 wool covers. Also “Kooshies” (see under ‘K’. Naturebaby organic fitted nappies are a very good deal – two sizes so economic – probably not fast drying but they don’t have enough info on the site about whether they have a fold out soaker or not (from $21.00)
Nap-Naps NZ www.naturalparenting.co.nz
(OSFA fitted nappy system with covers/overnaps)
This is a quite an economic system but I don’t think Dad’s/caregivers would enjoy the fiddle of the OSFA folding system – some people love it though. $54 for a cover, OSFA nappy + boosters. $29 for just nappy.
Nix-kids NZ
(Range of most types of modern nappies)
Pretty OK prices, but again multiple sizes so not as economic. Website not obvious, can be purchased new from www.trademe.co.nz though.
Pea pods AUST www.busybehinds.co.nz
(PUL pocket nappy of similar design to fuzzibunz but with a hemp insert instead of microfibre)
These make a great gift if you want to enthuse about cloth nappies as they come in a cute cotton draw string bag with a pouch for the insert. Everything is designed attractively. I can’t comment on the use of them however as I bought the wrong size and intend to give mine away. Cheaper than fuzzibunz.
Pikobaby NZ www.pikobaby.co.nz
(Range of most types of modern nappies)
Pretty OK prices from $18, but again multiple sizes so not optimum economy.
Popolini UK www.babyonline.co.nz
(A range of fitted nappies, covers and All-in-Ones)
Available from www.babyonline.co.nz - economic + organic options. I have found the organic fitteds that I bought not to be that well designed and bulky (from $16). Babyonline have little aftersales service and little real info about the nappies – I had to do a lot of googling. The cheap so called OSFA “Bravo” is huge. I have to put a small prefold inside it, fold down the front and secure it with a snappy because there is not enough Velcro… ($11.95) They do however sell the cheapest AIO on the market ($23.95) that is getting good reports in feedback - I would buy a couple to put in the out-and-about bag if I hadn’t already spent my budget!
Rosies naps NZ www.rosiesnaps.co.nz
(Full range of types of modern nappies)
Pretty OK prices, but again multiple sizes from $20 each. Seem to have reasonable resale value on TM.
Rumpsters ? www.busybehinds.co.nz
(pocket and AIO PUL nappies)
Famous for their All-in-one nappies from $39.95. Questionable price for how long they possibly take to dry?
Smart E Pants NZ www.smartepants.co.nz
(PUL pocket nap)
Apparently award winning one-size-fits-all pocket nappy. See comments about ‘wonderoos’ for an idea of what this might be like. From $32 without inserts which is slightly above average for a OSFA.
Swaddlebees ? – not NZ www.mumandbubs.co.nz www.trademe.co.nz www.mothersinstinct.co.nz
(Full range of modern systems)
Another well known international brand. They do have some organic options in their fabrics, but again, they are on the expensive side due to the range of sizes required. From $27.95 each.
Totbots UK www.totsbots.com www.nappydays.co.nz www.bumbles.co.nz
(A range of fitted nappies and covers)
Like Snazzipants, their main nap only has two sizes so therefore economic + they have eco-friendly unbleached fabrics and ‘bamboozles’ made of bamboo which is super duper fab due to it’s absorbtion and low environmental impact. I haven’t had the pleasure of trying these yet but I have been sorely tempted! Fluffles are made my Totbots.
Wam bamboo UK www.mothersinstinct.co.nz
(Bamboo fitted nappy)
$27.50. Two sizes, economical, not sure how well designed. Eco-friendly and quick drying as bamboo is the new fab fabric.
Wonderoos / Superstar US www.snazzipants.co.nz
(OSFA pocket nappy system. PUL cover and suede cloth liner – optional insert).
Sound great on paper but getting the right kind of insert folded in the right way and adjusting the snaps for a good fit/leak proof can be a right fiddle if you have a fast growing heavy wetter like I do. Suede cloth is fab for cleaning though as poop doesn’t stick + the covers are basically dry as soon as they come out of the washing machine. One size fits all is economic. $32 including inserts.
